Umma-Lagash Cone
myminifactory
The ancient relic, a clay cone from the Early Dynastic period, bears witness to a pivotal moment in history - King Enmetena's triumph over Umma. The inscription on this artifact tells the tale of a city torn apart by conflict, only to be redeemed through the ruler's victory and a bold redrawing of the border. It is likely that this cone stood alongside others, serving as a visual marker to demarcate the boundaries between Lagash and its neighboring foe. At the base of the cone, a net-like pattern appears, echoing a warning that foreign invaders would be ensnared in the divine net of Enlil. This precious relic now resides at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, cataloged as BC.005474 (formerly NBC 2501). In 2017, the Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage's Digital Imaging Specialist, Chelsea Alene Graham, carefully scanned and processed this treasure using cutting-edge technology from Artec Space Spider and Artec Studio Professional. The resulting image boasts a high level of detail, uploaded at an impressive resolution of 0.3 mm.
