Design a Compact Portable Umbrella Utilizing Advanced Surface Modeling Techniques in CATIA V5 Begin by launching CATIA V5 and creating a new part document. Name the file "Compact_Umbrella" and set the units to millimeters. Next, create a new surface body by going to "File" > "New" > "Surface Body." Name this surface body "Umbrella_Skin." Create a sketch on the umbrella skin surface body by going to "Sketch" > "2D Sketch." Draw a circle with a diameter of 150 mm and an ellipse with a major axis of 300 mm and a minor axis of 200 mm. Use the "Surface" tab in CATIA V5 to create a surface from the sketch. Select the circle and ellipse, then click on "Create Surface" and choose the "Offset" option. Create another surface body by going to "File" > "New" > "Surface Body." Name this surface body "Umbrella_Ribs." Create a new sketch on the umbrella ribs surface body by going to "Sketch" > "2D Sketch." Draw two lines that intersect at a 90-degree angle, creating an X-shaped pattern. Use the "Surface" tab in CATIA V5 to create a surface from the sketch. Select the lines and click on "Create Surface" and choose the "Offset" option. Create a new assembly by going to "File" > "New" > "Assembly." Name this assembly "Compact_Umbrella." Add the umbrella skin and ribs surface bodies to the assembly by dragging and dropping them from the part document into the assembly. Use the "Assemble" tab in CATIA V5 to constrain the umbrella skin and ribs together. Select the edges of the umbrella skin and the holes on the ribs, then click on "Constrain" and choose the "Mate" option. Create a new feature by going to "Features" > "Part" > "Extrude." Name this feature "Umbrella_Handle." Use the "Surface" tab in CATIA V5 to create a surface from the handle sketch. Select the lines and click on "Create Surface" and choose the "Offset" option. Add the umbrella handle feature to the assembly by dragging and dropping it from the part document into the assembly. Use the "Assemble" tab in CATIA V5 to constrain the umbrella handle to the ribs. Select the edges of the handle and the holes on the ribs, then click on "Constrain" and choose the "Mate" option. The compact portable umbrella is now complete. You can use it as a starting point for further design development or as a final product.
