Ultrasonic Bug Repelling Floating Waterlily - #MakeItFloat
thingiverse
This is a floating waterlily that utilizes ultrasound in the 38-40kHz frequency range to deter mosquitoes and other unwanted insects from your pool or standing water, thereby reducing the need for skimming and insect breeding. Anyone who owns a pool knows how much fun it can be, but also how frustrating it is to skim when the insects are bad. If you have a pond or standing water nearby where you like to relax, you're well aware of how annoying insects can be, and how irritating their bites can be. So, take on the problem at its source, and minimize the number of insects that are drawn to your pool from the start. This also applies to ponds and standing water. Insects are repelled by higher ultrasonic frequencies that people cannot hear, so harness this knowledge to create a more peaceful and less itchy summer. A single iteration was necessary to add the stabilizing ledge that drops down from the lilypad. I am still working on the design to improve it, test how well it repels insects, and see how long it will last with a 9V battery powering it.
