Ultralight on rail direct drive hotend carriage for BMG & e3dv6
thingiverse
This project is still just a concept for an ultralight, direct drive hotend carriage designed specifically for my CoreXY 3D Printer. It will provide standard accessory adapters (fans, sensors) from the modular mount collection available on Thingiverse, allowing you to reuse existing components. The goal is to create a lightweight yet powerful direct drive system. To achieve this, I've chosen a slim NEMA 17 stepper motor that pairs well with the Bondtech BMG extruder. This combination provides a good balance between torque and inertial mass, making it suitable for flexible filaments without compromising performance. By combining a strong push extruder with high accelerations on the CoreXY platform, I aim to eliminate the hassle associated with Bowden systems. My goal is to create a seamless printing experience that leverages the strengths of direct drive technology. To refine my design, I'm conducting experiments to measure rail flexures and vibration patterns. Your feedback is highly valued and will help me refine this concept further. I hope you enjoy exploring this project!
