Ultracompact set ChessBox
thingiverse
I created this set based on Lanier Graham's chess design, but with a unique twist - each piece fits snugly inside another, much like Russian nesting dolls. This clever concept allows for compact storage and display. To maintain the figures' essence, I preserved their distinctive silhouettes, which convey movement through shape. The knight's angular form and bishop's diagonal top are still instantly recognizable. For a sleeker appearance, I flattened the figures slightly, but feel free to add depth if you prefer. Printing them with transparent plastic yields an eye-catching effect, although I'm eager to see them cast in metal someday. The best part? Each piece can be stacked on top of another within a remarkably small box - a testament to their compact design. Building upon the foundation laid by Josef Hartwig's chess set (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3484722), my new project aims to reimagine this classic game in innovative and visually striking ways.
