Ultra simple inexpensive quick filament spool mount for Mendel Max
thingiverse
Create a sturdy, cheap, and quick-to-make filament spool holder for your Mendel Max 3D printer. Follow these steps: 1. Purchase 3/4" diameter PVC sprinkler pipe (Schedule 40 is recommended for strength). 2. Obtain a slip-fit coupling, slip-fit end cap, and slip-fit plug with a flat surface on the end. 3. You will also need an M5 T-slot nut, M5 x 10 socket head cap screw, M5 washer, and a drill to create a hole for the screw in the plug. 4. Cut the PVC pipe lengthwise so it fits through your filament spool with extra length on both ends for the slip-fit coupling and end cap. Optionally, wrap tape around the pipe where the spool rides for added friction. 5. Install the T-slot nut and screw in the plug from inside, securing the PVC pipe to the aluminum extrusion of your Mendel Max frame. 6. Optional: Attach a filament guide (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:64302) on top of your 3D printer for ultimate filament management and control. 7. If you have different sized spools, make multiple lengths of PVC pipe for easy switching and potentially mount up to four spools on your Mendel Max frame. This cost-effective and time-efficient solution ensures a strong and durable filament spool holder for your 3D printing needs!
