Ultra Light FT5-r2 Carriage - Double Blower, RJ45 addon, E3Dv6
thingiverse
Ultra lightweight carriage for the FT-5r2 uses two blowers for massive part cooling, and it includes a remix of the RJ-45 addon. This snaps onto the back of the carriage (use this item <https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072J59H5X/ref=psdc_172544_t1_B01BAHLWZ8>). This could be made much smaller, but I created it because I added four 8mm flanged bearing blocks to the top of my bed, which drops it down and requires a lower carriage. The stock FT-5 uses only four flanged linear bearings on the bottom of the bed, but adding four on top increases stability in a measurable way. You may need to sand the blower vents so that they aren't lower than the print nozzle, depending on how the print turns out. Drywall screws work well to hold the parts together. Attach a long drywall screw to the carriage back plate, extending it out to the X-axis limit switch so that the carriage doesn't crash into the edge. 3mm machine screws also work well. Because cooling is so strong, set minimum cooling to 25, starting at layer 5 or higher. Limit maximum airflow to 90% (use these blowers <https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DQ7F1T7/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1>). I use this with a bowden setup, but there is a way to mount the extruder directly on top of the carriage by rotating the drag chain 45 degrees. If there's interest, leave a comment, and I will attach the files. **Update** The old rail mount was nice because it had the cable chain attachment, but the screw holes were off. I use the cable chain rotated at a 90-degree angle, so this part isn't necessary anymore. I've uploaded the 2.0 file that has the cable chain mount removed, and the holes are in the correct location.
