Ultimate Spool Holder for Ultimaker
thingiverse
The reel holder features two cones containing integrated bearings, which handle both thrust and vertical load. These cones float around the holder shaft without resting on it, held in place by the bearing's thrust face in both horizontal and vertical directions. This design eliminates the need for a shaft-mounted bearing, reducing friction. Manual adjustment of reel spinning freedom is achieved through a nut at the end. To print all parts with Cura_13.6.04, use PLA filament. The cones have a groove designed for 18x6mm BBs, so proper build plate leveling is essential to minimize sanding. Common printing settings include a layer height of 0.1 and 30% infill. The reel holder and cone bearing require support during printing, while the latter also needs support structures. The ball-bearing groove in the cone is tight, so sanding with P180 grit paper may be necessary for smooth rotation. Press one ball into place first, then test its movement before adding more balls. Listen for a "click" to ensure proper placement within the groove.
