Ultimate Greg's Wade's Geared Extruder - 30mm version
thingiverse
This is the classic Greg's Wade's Geared Extruder, revisited in August 2015, with complete OpenSCAD source code including the herringbone (a.k.a. fishbone) gears that make it a popular choice among 3D printing enthusiasts. By default, it is configured for mounting on a Prusa i3 or P3Steel X-carriage with 30mm hole spacing, similar to this one: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:586636 , and also suitable for a J-Head or E3D extruder (original or affordable clone) with 16mm mount diameter. In addition to the standard version, two more remixes are available - one is the 24mm version designed specifically for older Prusa i3 carriages, while the other is a Bowden version that offers greater flexibility in terms of printer setup. The default source code and included STL files are optimized for use with 1.75mm filament, but this can be easily changed to accommodate 3mm filament by recompiling the source code. Notably, there is also a complete layer fan system available that perfectly complements this extruder - it can be found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:540716 . The OpenSCAD source code for the extruder itself is based on Misan's latest code from March 2014, which has been tweaked with a few minor changes to enhance its performance and reliability. Meanwhile, the fishbone gears are powered by Frans-Willem Hardijzer's excellent source code from May 2015 - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:818003 .
