Ultimate Excavation Drum Redesign
grabcad
A total overhaul of the NASA RASSOR drum is underway to significantly enhance its holding capacity and fill ratio while expanding its versatility across diverse gravitational forces environments. Moving away from being an open system reliant on gravity and baffles to contain regolith, this innovative redesign incorporates hinged components that meticulously control the opening and closing entrance to the cavity. This clever design ensures that the contained regolith remains securely in place, even in zero-gravity conditions where it would otherwise escape or float out. When operating within gravitational forces, regolith settles effortlessly at the bottom, rendering this aspect of the design entirely obsolete.
