We Hosted a Thrilling Office Competition Dubbed "Sharkvivor" After conducting a thorough search, we stumbled upon the Beefy Shark model on Thingiverse and knew exactly what to do – scale it up and create an extraordinary 3D printed trophy! Initially, I had planned to design the trophy as one solid piece that could be printed in its entirety using my Ultimaker 3 Extended. However, during the design process, I got carried away and decided to split it into three main sections to facilitate printing. Beefy Shark Topper * Print Settings: 0.2 layer height at 20% infill * Supports: Yes, PVA support material * Print Time: 58 hours Trophy Cup * Print Settings: 0.2 layer height at 20% infill * Supports: No * Print Time: 22 hours Trophy Base * Print Settings: 0.1 layer height with adaptive layer heights on at 20% infill * Supports: No * Print Time: 21 hours Name Plate * Print Settings: 0.2 layer height at 20% infill * Supports: No * Print Time: 1 hour Total Print Time: 102 hours Post-Printing Process Removing Support Material I carefully removed a substantial amount of PVA support material by hand, taking care not to get too close to the printed surface. Next, I submerged Beefy Shark in my kitchen sink for approximately two days, replacing the water with fresh warm water every few hours. Beefy Shark tends to float, making it challenging to remove the PVA. Using zip ties and a hitch ball, I was able to keep him underwater. Drying The model absorbed some water during the PVA removal process, so I allowed it to dry out for around one day, rotating it on a stack of paper towels periodically to facilitate drainage from the crevices. Assembly Assembly is relatively straightforward. I used Gorilla Glue Super Glue Gel to bond everything together securely. To ensure a smooth painting process, I masked off the base and cut out the hole beforehand. Painting I applied gold spray paint to give the trophy its desired golden appearance. Although I had printed it using gold PLA, I wasn't satisfied with the resulting color.
