As I mounted my new aluminum sheet metal fan duct to my Ultimaker, I considered options for securing two sheets of acrylic on the sides. Screws or glue were not ideal, but neodymium magnets proved perfect. To implement this, I designed simple brackets to hold the 3mm diameter magnets while a counter magnet was glued onto each acrylic window. After purchasing these small magnets from eBay, I cut the acrylic sheets and printed two sets of mounting brackets. By pushing the magnets into the pre-drilled holes in the brackets and aligning counterparts on the acrylic pieces, I glued the brackets to each corner of the frame with cyan acrylate. Finally, I placed the acrylic windows in position, allowing the CA to harden for a secure hold.
