The FormFuturas cardboard spools have an inside diameter that exceeds the Ultimaker plastic spools, causing their rim to make contact with the spoolholder arm from underneath. The friction between the cardboard and the rim and sides becomes so intense that the spool gets stuck, blocking the filament feeder completely. Printing these adapters effectively reduces friction and compensates for the inner diameter discrepancy.
