Ultimaker Printhead
thingiverse
This Ultimaker printhead redesign features a top-mounted fan and lightweight components, inspired by Coyote69's design. The weight reduction is approximately 20 grams, with most of it coming from short screws instead of long thumbscrews. The top-mounted fan is for replacing the side-mounted one, not active cooling. To minimize heat distortion, parts are positioned away from hot areas and load distribution is improved around the clamped nozzle. The user is working on improving airflow with various duct designs and recommends insulating material around the heater block. Files are currently for a single extruder, but a second extruder option remains available in the design. Wires are routed along the exterior to maintain airflow, and some STLs have "ears" for printing without a heated bed. The printhead is a work-in-progress; recent updates include fixing a Bowden tube slippage issue and adding a Bowden clamp and nut option. Follow the PDF instructions carefully, especially seating the Bowden tube fully and properly orienting the transition duct.
