This design increases Z build volume by about 6mm. It reduces moving mass by approximately 35 grams. The design also reduces overall printhead bulkiness, providing better access to the machine and a cleaner look. Assembly, disassembly, and maintenance are drastically simplified. Print accuracy is theoretically increased by reducing wobble in 6mm linear bearings. This design is specifically intended for use with Reptar XY blocks. However, users should be aware that it may collide with stock XY blocks. It is recommended to upgrade from the original components anyway. The design has undergone several updates since its initial release. On November 10th, 2013, a critical discovery was made regarding electromagnetic interference (EMI). Running the fan wire alongside the unshielded thermocouple wire can cause unstable temperature readings. To avoid this issue, keep the fan wire outside the spiral bundle for at least several inches between the hotend and thermocouple PCB. Another update addresses printing without the fan turned on. In such cases, PLA prints may soften due to heat radiating from the print into the printhead. This can cause the hotend to slump slightly. It is recommended to use ABS or other materials when printing without the fan. After installing this design for over 100 hours of print time, it has retained its original shape and function on one machine.
