Ultimaker feeder gear mod (double helical)
thingiverse
A double-helical (herringbone) gear set is presented for the default Ultimaker filament feeder, which may operate more quietly than the standard gears due to their rolling action. This design has proper bending of teeth, particularly on the smaller gear, ensuring proper connection between gears. The set includes two versions of the bigger gear: one with a knob socket for easier manual feeding and another without a hole for the knob. The "knobbed" version can still be used without the knob attached. Dimensions are from an official lasercut PDF, ensuring accuracy. To ensure mechanical integrity and provide feedback on potential weaknesses or faults, it is recommended that someone with engineering knowledge prints and tests the set. A minimum of 80% filling should be used for gears, while the knob should be printed at 100% filling. An updated version of the knob has been released based on feedback, with a thicker pin and wall for durability. Gear operation still needs to be tested. Feedback and suggestions are welcome to improve the set.
