Ultimaker Direct Extruder

Ultimaker Direct Extruder

This design has been superseded by Ron's Compact Extruder Mark II (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:24219). It's a modified version of Ron's Compact Extruder that fits on the Ultimaker's XY carriage. The extruder, without the Bowden tube, allows for fewer messy strings after each print. Max speed hasn't been tested but 100mm/s printing was successful. The version of RCX is a mirror image of the original, with the stepper motor near the center of the carriage and no need to change firmware direction. Two OpenSCAD files are included for customization. To install, cut Bowden tube to protrude 5-10mm inside XY carriage (total PTFE length of 70mm). Remove two long screws from carriage; one permanently, the other reattached with a 15mm bolt. Attach Ultimaker Direct Extruder to top of carriage, ensuring tube fits snugly into UDE's hole and aligning hand-tightening screw holes. Use a hand-tightened screw and pliers for tightness, then secure with a 20mm bolt on the other side. Enjoy direct mounted extruding!
