Ultimaker 3 extended vertical filament spool holder (plug and play)
thingiverse
I'm designing a filament spool holder for my Ultimaker 3 extended that keeps spools separated. To be honest, I'm not a fan of how the UM3 extended originally holds filament spools behind each other. While I get why it's done that way on the non-extended version - there just isn't enough space - I don't think it's necessary for my printer. Here are some reasons why: * When you want to switch to a new spool, you have to remove the old one first. * It takes up too much room in my printer's anti-noise box. That's why I decided to create a spool holder system that does things differently. Here are its key features: * Spools are kept separate from each other. * The entire thing can be assembled and used without needing any tools or screws. * It can be printed out without any supports or post-processing needed. I've also included an editable 123d file if you want to make any changes to it. One thing I didn't worry about is the RFID reader inside the original holder, since I don't usually use Ultimaker filament anyway. However, even if I were going to integrate the reader into one of the rolls, it would only work on that one roll and not both. You can keep the reader separate - or print your own "hold-here" box for it - and just swap in a new spool next to it when you need to change things up.
