Ultimaker 2 Reel Holder with reenforced bracket

Our Ultimaker 2 reel holder snapped off in two. Searching for a replacement design led me to many designs with very thin support for the stressed L-shaped part caused by the weight of the reel. This design has a thicker reel support to reduce breaking. Print Settings Printer Brand: LulzBot Printer: TAZ 5 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Notes: I printed upside-down, so that the parts the reel slides over have minimal friction. It took a while to pull off all infill, but it was worth it. I printed in ABS for strength and expect it will work in PLA as well. How I Designed This This is a new design based on several existing designs on Thingiverse. Two changes were made to reduce the chance of breaking: the vertical bar of the top snap was made as thick as possible, and the holder was made a full circle to lower the fulcrum (reduced leverage) caused by the 1kg reel. Incidentally I removed non-functional side snaps, increased space between the Ultimaker and the reel for our filament feeder, added a larger spur on the end to keep the reel from sliding off. A shorter length was also achieved by reducing the holder's length again to lower the moment of force caused by a 1kg reel. I haven't optimized the amount of filament required yet, so you may need to change the diameter or length of the holder for your filament. I'd welcome a design that uses less filament while keeping the essential thick L-shaped part.
