Ultimaker 2 Heatsink Fan Duct
youmagine
The optimal positioning of the 25mm cooling fan directly adjacent to the heatsink yields only 2 of the 11 available slots with adequate airflow. Consequently, my Ultimaker 2 would frequently jam and halt printing after approximately 30 minutes due to excessive heat buildup in the hot end isolator and PTFE coupler. A simple modification involves installing this duct via the back two thumb screws, while securing the fan using either the provided screws or four 5/16" 4-40 screws. To ensure a clear path for the heater and thermometer wires, you may need to carefully trim away some black plastic from the hot end carrier. I strongly advise applying thermal paste between the hot end isolator and the lower hot end carrier, as well as between the latter and the heatsink itself.
