Ultimaker 2 Breathable Electronics Enclosure
thingiverse
I needed an enclosure for the UM2 that allowed its electronics to breathe more freely. The challenge was on as I struggled to get this right from the start. Initially, I attempted to place all the holes in the bottom face within the part model. However, those tiny perimeters made it nearly impossible to print. To overcome this hurdle, I decided to solidify the bottom side of the enclosure in the model instead. This allowed me to work around the printing difficulties caused by the numerous small openings. In the slicer software (S3D), I tweaked the settings accordingly. I set both top and bottom layers to zero, and then increased the number of shells to 10. Although it didn't produce a perfect print, this method still yielded better results than any previous attempts I had made.
