Ultimaker 2 Aluminium Extrusion Mods
thingiverse
I love jasonatepaint's UM2 clone. I built it as an extended version. A few months ago my mainboard blew up and I needed a replacement. The "original" UM2 mainboards were that prohibitively expensive, that i decided to change to the way more powerfull duet3d board, which was cheaper at that time. As that required some heavy modifications on the wiring, I decided to do it right and use the chance to include some more silent fans, a "bltouch" sensor and a single cable holding all lines (data and power). Now there are super silent 40x40 fans for cooling the heatbreak, as well as for the part cooling. Fruthermore there is a super silent fan cooling the new mainboard. Comined with the duet3d's microstepping i actually have to check if the printer is running, every time i am in the room. The "bltouch" is working great and I have not had any first layer issues since the mod. The inside of the head features space for two connectors - one for the power (to be wrapped with capton, as there are some watts going through the cable + the "heat creep" from the cartridge). Furthermore a connector for the the bltouch, heat resistor and fans. This setup allowed to use one cable including all lines and an easy disassembly in case of any issues (I luckily needed this only once in the last months, even though the printer was running 24/7). If you should have questions on the usage and parts - let me know and I'll go into more details and am happy to share my BOM. I intentionally do not post it in order to avoid any further advertising.
