Ultimaker 2 - 3 Extruder Lever Arm - Screw Together Upgrade
youmagine
My trusty Ultimaker 2+ had developed a nasty habit of jamming frequently and I soon discovered that the extruder lever's warping at the bearing mounting point was to blame, causing it to get stuck solid. Using the incredibly useful open source files for the UM, I set about modifying the lever arm to assemble with screws instead of relying on the original clips - this made a huge difference in terms of strength and durability. I started printing with ABS plastic using higher infill settings and used M3 x 10 flat head screws or #4 x 3/8" machine screws for assembly. Thanks to these tweaks, I've been able to print objects without the need for supports, which is a real game-changer in terms of speed and convenience. I'm not sure if this mod will work on all Ultimaker models - it definitely seems to be working for my 2+, 2, and 3 printers but I'm not entirely convinced that it'll be compatible with the newer S5 model.
