Ultimachine 5 lbs filament spool core with 608 bearings
thingiverse
Ultimachine sells large spools of filament that weigh 5 pounds each and come on spools measuring 2.3 kilograms. These heavy spools are too large to be placed easily on a lazy susan or attached to many three-dimensional printers behind them, therefore I created this spindle core to function as part of a system of support for the large spool rolls. The core is equipped with bearings to provide it with a sturdy foundation while supporting the load and enabling an 8mm diameter rod/axis/pole to pass through them, thereby supporting the heavy spool roll securely. Owing to these components rotating smoothly around the axis due to the presence of these rollers; this significantly minimizes strain on your printer's feeder mechanism by minimizing friction in its static component as opposed to using any other kind of spindle. \nI inserted two 608 skate bearings with great force into a heavy-duty holder to keep them stable for the support system of these large spool rolls so they would not move; I secured the set screws, consisting of M3 nuts and bolts which have acted in place of screw heads, by turning a 10mm long bolt through an opening that allowed them some degree to shift until everything fitted into place without further incident - the bearings were also firmly seated on the axles using these new press-fitted mechanisms that came in very handy when time was running short but ended up making things easier. Two parts are needed, they can be two 608 skate rollers, optionally four or more. One eight millimeter wide (max diameter rod) length of about twelve centimeters and an M3 bolt acting like a set screw which has been press fitted to prevent it from shifting as soon as you install these other pieces which fit around them so everything is secure; there is also one OpenSCAD file in parametric source which gives instructions for the final build once you decide how long the rod needs to be or which components might be useful but aren't required yet.
