(486958) 2014 MU69, nicknamed Ultima Thule, orbits the Sun as a trans-Neptunian object in the Kuiper belt. It is a contact binary, measuring 31 kilometers long, formed by two joined bodies, 'Ultima' and 'Thule', which are 19 kilometers and 14 kilometers across respectively. With an orbital period of 298 years, 2014 MU69 has a low inclination and eccentricity, classifying it as a classical Kuiper belt object. On January 1st, 2019, the New Horizons space probe flew by, making (486958) 2014 MU69 the farthest visited object in our Solar System, and scientists believe its two bodies are made up of planetesimal aggregates, formed from much smaller building blocks.
