Human: See the genius of robotics in action \nhttp://vimeo.com/67641975The Ultimate Warrior-Bot The Warrior-Bot was submitted by XYZ Workshop, which earned a prestigious 6th place award in the esteemed 3D Toy Design Competition hosted by GrabCAD and Ultimaker. To review the competition's results, visit http://grabcad.com/challenges/ultimaker-3d-printer-toy-design-challenge/resultsWe set out to unlock the full potential of the Ultimaker 3D printer and design something uniquely dynamic, far from a mere static toy.Inspired by the thrilling adventures on the Octonauts cartoon with our child, our initial sketches evolved into a futuristic robot tank, equipped with flexible arms that would scoop up objects and transport them on its back. It could then release these objects through a retractable rear hatch. The original concept called for the robot to collect 3D printed objects with precision. Nevertheless, we were convinced it would be safer and more entertaining if our robot picked up delightful chocolate treats instead. Our initial inspiration was Maltesers, whose resemblance to miniature cannon balls made them the perfect choice. However, upon testing, we discovered they didn't quite fit our design's proportions. Consequently, we undertook extensive research and testing with various other chocolate confectioneries. Through these trials, we concluded that smaller treats like M&Ms or Skittles would be more suitable, thereby minimizing choking hazards and keeping everyone happy during those long nights of experimentation. As our design took shape, an exciting thought struck us: what if it could unleash a stream of its own special chocolates from its cannon? To achieve this remarkable feat, we incorporated the spring from an ordinary pen into our chocolate cannon.Avoid being misled by cautionary tales about DIY 3D printed firearms. Let's seize this unique opportunity to build and enjoy your very own 3d printed chocolate cannons! See results of the competition at http://grabcad.com/challenges/ultimaker-3d-printer-toy-design-challenge/resultsWe wanted to push what we could do with the Ultimaker 3D printer, and we wanted to design something that was heavily articulated and not merely a static toy.Inspired while watching the Octonauts cartoon with our son, our early sketches for a toy came about as a robot tank, with articulated arms that would pick up objects and collect them on its back. It would then poop out the objects out through a rear hatch. The initial concept of the robot, was to pick up purposefully designed 3D printed objects. However, it then struck us that it would be cool and less of a choking hazard if the robot picked up chocolate snacks instead.Maltesers first came to mind as the perfect object to be used, as they resembled mini cannon balls Alas, upon testing, they were of the wrong scale and proportion to our design. This realization was followed by a series of rigorous testing and experimentation of different chocolate confectioneries. Our extensive research lead us to conclude that using something smaller, namely M&Ms, Skittles or Smarties would be more appropriate. The best thing was that nobody went hungry during those late night experimentations. As the design developed, the thought came to us, what if it could shoot out chocolate confectionery from its very own cannon? We then designed a working chocolate cannon, utilising the spring from an ordinary pen.Forget all those negative press about people building their own 3d printed guns. Why not build your own 3d printed chocolate cannon! This is chocolate warfare about to be taken to the next level! If you like our designs please follow us at http://www.facebook.com/xyzworkshop
