Ukulele is a member of the lute family of instruments. Modelled in Blender, textured in substance painter, and rendered from Marmoset toolbag 3 at 1920*1080 resolution with PBR textures at 2K texture resolution using four materials. Textures were baked in substance painter. The ukulele is commonly associated with music from Hawaii where the name roughly translates as jumping flea, perhaps due to the movement of the player's fingers. Legend attributes it to Edward William Purvis, an Englishman who was one of King Kalākaua's officers, because of his small size, fidgety manner, and exceptional playing skills. One of the earliest appearances of the word ukulele in print is found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Catalogue of the Crosby Brown Collection of Musical Instruments of All Nations published in 1907. The catalog describes two ukuleles from Hawaii: one similar in size to a modern soprano ukulele, and one similar to a tenor. Developed in the 1880s, the ukulele is based on several small guitar-like instruments of Portuguese origin, including the machete, cavaquinho, timple, and rajão. These instruments were introduced to the Hawaiian Islands by Portuguese immigrants from Madeira and Cape Verde. Manuel Nunes, José do Espírito Santo, and Augusto Dias are generally credited as the first ukulele makers. Two weeks after they arrived in Hawaii, the Hawaiian Gazette reported that the recent arrivals from Madeira had been entertaining people with nightly street concerts.
