The Captains Class Frigate was a series of ships built between 1943 and 1944 by the US for use in World War II. Compared to the fleet destroyer classes, these ships were smaller, slower, and had shorter ranges, but they offered several advantages - being cheaper to produce, easier to staff, more maneuverable, and quicker to deploy into action. A total of over 40 of these vessels were built for service with the British Navy as Captain Class Frigates. These ships boasted armament consisting of three 3-inch artillery pieces, one quad 40mm anti-aircraft gun, three standard M14 torpedo launch tubes, up to eight 20mm cannons, plus additional features such as a single rack capable of holding two roll-off depth charges, and four to six K-gun launchers.
