Rondinone burst onto the global art scene in the 1990s, leaving an indelible mark that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.[3] His thought-provoking works skillfully guide viewers into a meditative state, much like the mesmerizing, vividly colored, concentric rings of his target-shaped masterpieces;[4] or the stark, black and white landscapes of twisted trees that seem to pulse with an otherworldly energy.[5] His massive rainbow signs are equally enigmatic in their allure, proclaiming imperative affirmations such as “Hell, Yes!” or “Our Magic Hour.” These signs appear to point to a hidden facet of our reality and history.[6] One sign, “Dog Days Are Over,” unveiled in 1996 at Zurich's Museum für Gegenwartskunst, declared an end to a period of turmoil, though the specific era remained ambiguous.[7] This sign later inspired Florence Welch, lead vocalist of Florence + The Machine, to pen the chart-topping hit “Dog Days Are Over.” In 2013, Rondinone presented “Human Nature,” a collection of imposing stone figures in Rockefeller Center. They resembled rudimentary robots sculpted from the ancient rocks of Stonehenge.
