UPDATE: new version of the tail assembly boasts stronger hinges and a slightly reduced weight. This is my rendition of the classic "ugly" stick RC planes, the prototype is built but has yet to be flown too date, I will post flight video as soon as possible. This design draws inspiration from some of my previous designs, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2145201 and https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2022750. Flight video can be seen at https://youtu.be/wi2N7e6ffDM. I apologize for its lackluster quality. This plane features a 1166mm wing span (46 inch), with the cg situated between 48mm and 65mm (1 7/8 inch to 2 ¼ inch) from the leading edge, dry weight 1200g (2.65lbs) & an estimated all up flying weight of around 1500 to 1650 grams (3.3 to 3.6 lbs.) powered by either: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-d2836-8-1100kv-brushless-outrunner-motor.html or https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-d3530-14-1100kv-brushless-outrunner-motor.html with a 9 X 6 prop, a 2200mAh 60C battery, a 40A ESC, and 4 X Tower Pro MG90S servos, or similar. All my printing for this plane was done on my Prusa I3 with PLA at 233deg C (better layer adhesion, may not work with all printers test first) on a glass bed heated to 65deg C, print cooling is disabled & print head cooling is 100%, my printer is semi enclosed (most of the top is open) this prevents drafts and allows much more consistent prints. The glass is coated with an ABS slurry and everything is printed at 0.20mm layers with a 0.35mm tip, extrusion widths are set to 0.37mm. This plane will likely surpass 100 hours of printing time and utilize just over 1.2kg of filament. I have included g-code files that work with my Prusa I3 and my profile files for Cura 2.5.
