Ugly Mech
thingiverse
My first totally original mech design in quite a while. I have more humanoid ideas in my head and in progress, but I have some more "weird" ideas as well that I want to get out of my system. My main goal with this mech was to test out a new shoulder design, while more restrictive in articulation has the potential to allow for the creation of some interesting looking parts. I'm still not sure if the trade off is worth it though. I also added a new weapon, trying to go for a "bullpup" look. I am not exactly sure where this mech fits into my mini narrative. Probably won't have the same in-universe manufacturer as the more humanoid mechs. Probably more cheaply made too. Not set in stone though. The Ugly Mech was designed with a focus on simplicity, durability, and ease of printing. Joints are achieved through a system of 3mm pins that give just enough friction while also easily removed with pliers (for maximum strength, print these so that the long side of the pin is parallel to the build plate). 3 millimeter ports on the arms, legs, and back allow for cross compatibility with most other model kit accessories. I hope you enjoy. Please send feedback as I may create improved versions of the figure in the future. Depending on your printer and plastic, some light sanding and/or tightening of parts may be required. Tightening may be done via thin layers of super glue or multi-surface floor polish.
