UFS-060 XT30 Battery Caps
thingiverse
I bought a LiPo battery with an XT30 connector and also purchased some spare XT30 connectors. So, I went searching on Thingiverse for a cap to protect the plug when not in use. I found this version here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2087961 and a remix here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2900417. I encountered the same two problems with both parts. 1. Cura 4.4.1 didn't like the thin wall. Initially, it wouldn't print anything at the flat end. Turning on the print thin wall setting allowed for the wall to print, but the path was weird and discontinuous. 2. Comments on the original site mentioned that the part was too small and needed to be printed with 105% scale. This indicated that the original model may indeed be too small. With these two Cura adjustments, the original part printed okay, but it didn't look great. I opened the model in Bender to see what could be fixed. The wall was not even around the part, and it was only 0.45mm at the flat end. So, I scaled the outside wall up by 105%, increasing the wall to 0.75mm at the thinnest point (note that since I scaled the whole outside wall and not just the end, the scale ratio doesn't equal the thickness adjustment). Then, I scaled the whole part up 105%, which increased the inside dimensions as well as making the whole part slightly bigger. The final tweak was shortening the overall length by 0.3mm. The final inside dimensions are 3.89mm wide and 9.36mm long, allowing just a little extra clearance for a slip fit. The new part now slices in Cura, and it prints fine without having to be scaled. If you experience trouble with the print, either your printer is off or you have connectors that are a different brand. The remixed parts, Thing 2900417, had the same issues. The remix does add some nice symbols on top of the cap to let you know if the battery is charged. I made the same adjustments on these in case anyone wanted to use those parts.
