The original mini hex bit driver was both good, and bad. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4040548 The good part was the ridges were nicely designed, and gave the handle a lot of grip. It was also a fun idea to have the stubby pop out of the handle. It was a two-in-one kind of tool. But I thought it was designed upside down.

I decided that the hex bit would look better coming out the small end. Why? Because the end of a screwdriver should be narrow. This is so they can fit into tight spaces where screws are often hidden. Since this was going hold hex bits, a little thickness to strengthen the end was reasonable.

The stubby half of the screwdriver is a different story. The stubby is designed to fit into the handle which is thicker. A stubby is supposed to be short and fat. This is for a situation were the screw is not hidden, but room in front of the screw is tight. Different problem, different design.

The design makes this a “fiddly” part to 3D print correctly. The stubby part has all these ridges that have to fit inside the handle part. It works because the stubby is tapered, so that it starts loose and then gets tight as you insert it. If your printer and slicer settings are not tuned properly, this may be a difficult part to build.

Scaling the design, may not work because you will alter both the fit of the stubby part and the fit of the hex bit. Of course your printer settings may need this adjustment.

It is designed to hold 1/4” hex bits (6.35mm). The hole is tapered so that the bit gets tighter as it is inserted. It keeps the bit from just falling out.

I included a photo comparison of some other specialty screwdriver handles I found on Thingiverse.

Tiny Hex bit Driver
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3590067

Short Screwdriver Handle
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3838532

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Creality

Printer:

CR-10S

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Doesn't Matter

Resolution:

.2

Infill:

30% with 3-4 layers

Notes:

You can use more infill or more layers.
