The Renault UE Chenillette, a light tracked armored carrier produced by France between 1932 and 1940, was designed as a prime mover for towing and supplying small cannons and mortars. In 1931, Renault received the contract for production, combining their UE model with the Renault UK trailer. The improved type, Renault UE2, was chosen in 1937 for large-scale production. Over five thousand were built, including licensure in Romania, and served as standard equipment for French infantry divisions. Unarmed in French service, captured vehicles in 1940 by Germany were armed with various weapons like machine guns, anti-tank guns, and rocket artillery.
