Early examples of later figurine designs found in Hot Springs Village, Alaska. U2-404 Okada Excavations. HHU2 level 6-2, House A. Dates back to before 1000 BCE. The massive village site at Hot Springs is located on the shoreline of Port Moller, situated on the southern Bering Sea's Alaska Peninsula side. Multiple teams have excavated this site over the last century. The primary occupations date from 2000 BCE-1000 BCE and again from 100 CE to 800 CE. The artifacts from Hot Springs Village result from research conducted under grants NSF 0137756, NSF 1204020, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411, led by Principal Investigator H. Maschner. Initial digitization took place at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., with subsequent processing completed at Global Digital Heritage.
