U-260 was a submarine built by Bremer Vulkan for the German Navy in 1942. She completed 9 patrols during her career, sinking 1 ship. She was scuttled on March 12th 1945 a few kilometers south of Co. Cork, after being badly damaged earlier that day by a mine at 80 meters depth. The entire crew interned in Ireland with 48 survivors (No casualties). U-260 was suspected to be involved in covert operations at the time of the loss. Secret papers and code books were recovered with the Captains personal log. Discovered in 1985 by Colin Barnes it has become known as the Glandore sub. The 57 m long wreck stands 6 m high in 35 m of water, and is almost intact. She lies at Lat 51.49, Long -9.10 in a south southwest direction. Aft gun is still attached to the stern deck and twin propellors are still there.
