U-260 was a German submarine built by Bremer Vulkan in 1942 for the German Navy. The submarine completed nine patrols during its career, sinking one ship in the process. It was scuttled on March 12, 1945, after being severely damaged earlier that day by a mine at a depth of 80 meters just south of County Cork. The entire crew survived with no casualties, and they were interned in Ireland with 48 survivors. U-260 is suspected to have been involved in covert operations at the time of its loss, as secret papers and code books were recovered along with the captain's personal log. The submarine was discovered in 1985 by Colin Barnes and has since become known as the Glandore sub. The intact wreck stands at a length of 57 meters high and lies at a depth of 35 meters in a southwest direction. The aft gun remains attached to the stern deck, while the twin propellers are still present. Conning tower plates have fallen off, giving access to the control room. Torpedoes are visible in the bow tubes. U-260 is located at latitude 51.49 and longitude -9.10 in a south-southwest direction.
