Tête de Christ
myminifactory
Several assumptions regarding the type of carved monument to which this head belonged have emerged: Christ on the Cross, Ecce Homo, Pieta or The Entombment. Of these, the last assumption appears most plausible, supported as it is by written texts on the Sepulcher of the Saint-Sauveur de Beauvais church, destroyed in the early nineteenth century. During the Middle Ages, artistic expression emphasized the humanity of a God made man. In a period marked by epidemics and wars, Christ's life story (the Passion) was a rich source of inspiration for artists. This work was created in a realistic style, balancing death with underlying agony. Although the original piece is no longer extant, plaster replicas were produced between the two World Wars and have been widely disseminated at art schools, where they served as models for reference. The sculpture was scanned using an EinScan-SP from Shining 3D.
