The Maya Sacred Round, or 260-day calendar, is commonly termed as tzolk'in by Mayanist researchers; the word "tzolkin" stems from Yucatec Maya and translates to "count of days." This calendar, utilized for determining religious, ceremonial occasions, and divination purposes, combines 20 day names with 13 trecena cycle numbers. Precolumbian Maya peoples named it differently, while the Aztecs referred to it as Tonalpohualli in Nahuatl language. In tzolk'in calendar, each day is assigned a number from 1 to 13 that resets after reaching 13, and a unique day name from a list of 20 names. Scholars debate its various historical names among Maya peoples.
