Tyvek soft facemask with common materials and reusable parts.
thingiverse
This respirator facemask can be built from common materials and small, easy-to-print 3D printed parts, along with a small (55mm) disk of filter material. The mask is adjustable to the face, with the Tyvek forming an impermeable membrane that concentrates breathing airflow through the filter housing. The filter housing is made up of two identical 3D-printed parts that snap together over the filter and around the edge of a circular hole in the Tyvek. The filter material is a 55mm diameter disk of material (preferably HEPA-certified) that allows sufficient airflow. The resulting mask, when properly fitted, is protective and breathable. The 3D-printed parts are small, quick prints using modest amounts of filament, making it possible to print lots of these parts quickly, with several able to be printed at the same time. This mask is intended for emergency use during this pandemic when manufactured products are unavailable. It's a general purpose face mask designed for use in the community and not suitable for healthcare professionals or in healthcare facilities or environments, as described in FDA Guidance Enforcement Policy for Face Masks and Respirators During the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Public Health Emergency, Section V B. The device has not been tested to assess out-gassing limits of the material or their corresponding health effects. I would appreciate real-world feedback on the use of these masks, especially by clinicians, so please comment. This design is also available at: https://3dprint.nih.gov/discover/3dpx-013519.
