Plaster cast of tympanum, crafted in stone from church at Shobdon (Herefordshire). Shobdon Church was demolished in 18th century; its two doorways with tympana and chancel arch were re-erected as folly in Shobdon Park, now weathered. Tympanum plaster cast made for Crystal Palace in 1850s was slightly modified by caster. A tympanum is a decorative wall surface over entrance, door or window, bounded by lintel and arch. It's semi-circular or triangular.
