Tyche was the supreme goddess controlling a city's fate and prosperity, ruling over its destiny. Born from Aphrodite and Zeus or Hermes, she embodied good fortune. Literary accounts varied, depicting her as either Hermes' daughter with Aphrodite or one of Oceanus' and Tethys' twelve daughters, the Oceanids. Associated closely with Nemesis, Tyche was also linked to Agathos Daimon, the benevolent spirit. Historian Polybius believed that unexplained events like floods, droughts, frosts, and even political upheavals could be attributed to Tyche's power when no other cause was evident.
