Two-part Ankle Detail for R2-D2 Astromech Droid
prusaprinters

R2-D2 has a small, vaguely L shaped detail greeble on the front and back of his ankles. This greeble has a small tab projecting above it, and on most versions of the R2-D2 prop the main part of the greeble is unfinished aluminium (or painted to look like aluminium) while the tab is painted blue.

There are several files for 3d printing this greeble but they all have the tab and main part as a single model. All I've done here is split the tab off, but with a small plug so that it can be easily fit back into the main part.

I've only created one version of this two-part greeble. The tabs are identical, but the main part is for the front of the port-side leg and back of the starboard-side leg. You'll want to mirror the main part in your slicer for the port-side back and starboard-side front details.

I used files created by Mike Baddeley to make this, so it has the guide holes to fit on Mike's 3D printed leg. You can find that leg and really the rest of R2-D2 through Mike's Patreon, here:

https://www.patreon.com/mrbaddeley

(Avoid the Version 1 Mr.Baddeley droid found on thingiverse! It's his first attempt, has flaws, and is not remotely screen-accurate!)

Mike's 3d files are based on drawings created for the R2-D2 Builders' Club. Those drawings were made from measurements of actual Lucasfilm props, with the understanding that the information would only be used by builders making their own R2-D2 replicas. These files, therefore, cannot be used for any commercial or for-profit purpose.

The R2-D2 Builders' Club can be found at: https://astromech.net . These files are perfectly suitable for any type of R2-style droid, and can be easily glued to a wooden, styrene, or aluminium leg.
