Today's majestic structure has its roots in two interconnected Gothic homes from the 15th century, built right on top of the veins mined at Spitaleri. As the centuries flipped from the 16th to the 17th, these humble abodes merged into a stunning storied palace, tailored specifically for the esteemed Fritz von Friedenlieb's mining empire, Waldburgrovskà . This architectural gem was reborn in the elegant Baroque style not long after. The interior courtyard became an epicenter of urban revelry - with high society attending grand balls, viewing exquisite kresliareń and admiring a library that rivaled the esteemed Academy's collections. However, nothing could have prepared visitors for its most striking makeover - one executed in the late 19th century when this former residential palace transformed into an imposing administrative complex, proudly serving as the Mining and Forestry Academy's seat of power under the wise rector. As a testament to this grand metamorphosis lies the stunning Renaissance façade, teeming with intricate artistic details. Every stroke, every delicate touch speaks of master craftsmanship. The sgraffito technique that adorned its walls adds an unparalleled level of refinement, setting it apart from any ordinary architectural achievement. And now, today, within these very walls, rests a treasure trove - the Slovak Mining Archives.
