Two Figures (Meeting Place) (1 of 2)

The sculpture showcases two distinct figures positioned several meters apart, hinting at an untold story. The large bronze statues have their surfaces painted with oil to bring forth a natural and vibrant appearance, blending traditional techniques that revived the multicolour sculpture trend prevalent in ancient art through to the Renaissance period in Europe. In a recent interview, Sean Henry revealed his inspiration behind creating this work: "I wanted to depict two figures standing together as if about to meet while strolling along a pathway. I selected the site near Westway, hoping it would resonate with people's daily lives within the then newly developed Paddington Central area." When asked if there was any dialogue between them, Henry responded: "Yes, there is indeed a connection between the two figures and a sense of potential conversation. You can see that they are on the verge of meeting – the standing figure is awaiting, alert, while the walking figure remains absorbed in his own thoughts, yet to notice the other person's presence."
