Two Disk Wobbler is a simple two-piece toy that leverages mathematics in its design to achieve impressive rolling capabilities. The first photo showcases two 4mm thick versions of the toy, while the second image features a single 2mm thick version. I've uploaded "Disk 4mm.stl", the 4mm thick version, which outperforms the original 2mm thick version on slick surfaces. A video demonstrating the prototype 4mm version is available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZwH5u_1NmU. The Two Disk Wobbler rolls smoothly because its center of mass remains relatively stable while rolling, thanks to the strategic length of the slots in the disks used for attachment. The mathematical calculations involved in determining the slot lengths are not overly complex and can be simplified using equations based on triangles. Specifically: Slot Length = Disk Radius * (1 - (1 / sqrt(2))), which is approximated by: Slot Length = Disk Radius * 0.2928932. I've observed several handmade versions of these toys, including a recent example made from wood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0NloZfdnHE. Another video explores an alternative equation for calculating slot lengths: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEMA6jhi5Qo. For optimal performance, select a slightly declining surface to prolong the roll time.
