TWO CYLINDER VERTICAL WORKING DOUBLE ACTING STEAM ENGINE
thingiverse
THIS IS A FUNCTIONAL MODEL OF A VERTICAL DOUBLE-ACTING TWO-CYLINDER STEAM ENGINE. DESIGNED, MANUFACTURED, TESTED, AND PERFECTED BY MYSELF. OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO DEVELOP A WORKING AND VISUALLY APPEALING MODEL STEAM ENGINE USING ONLY PRINTABLE PARTS THAT CAN BE EASILY PRODUCED WITH BASIC SLICER SETTINGS AND MINIMAL HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS. SINCE THERE IS NO USE OF BEARINGS OR SEALS, PARTS WILL NEED TO BE PARTIALLY DRILLED, SMOOTHED, AND/OR FILED TO FIT PROPERLY, SUCH AS THE PISTON AND VALVE IN THE CYLINDER, THE CRANKSHAFT IN THE BASE, ETC. TO ASSEMBLE THIS ENGINE YOU WILL NEED TWELVE (12) M3X16 CAP HEAD SCREWS, FOURTEEN (14) M3X12 CAP HEAD SCREWS, FOUR (4) M2X12 CAP HEAD SCREWS AND A SMALL FILE, MEDIUM GRIT SANDPAPER, AND A BASIC SET OF DRILL BITS. NO GLUE, GASKETS, OR BEARINGS ARE REQUIRED. EVERY PART CAN BE PRINTED WITH 10%-100% INFILL (A HIGHER INFILL PERCENTAGE IS RECOMMENDED FOR CRANKSHAFT PARTS AND PISTONS) AND WITHOUT SUPPORTS IF PRINTED IN THE CORRECT ORIENTATION. ALL PARTS ARE IN THE OPTIMAL PRINTING ORIENTATION. FILE NAMES INDICATE THE AMOUNT OF EACH PART NEEDED, i.e. x2, x3. TWO FLYWHEELS AS SHOWN ARE NOT NECESSARY, CAN BE RUN WITH ONE OR EVEN NONE IF YOU FEEL ADVENTUROUS. 31 PARTS IN TOTAL, INCLUDING TWO FLYWHEELS.
