Two Blue Laser Diode Beam Combiner
thingiverse
I am creating a two Blue Laser Diode beam combiner from scratch. It will be fabricated from 6061 T6 Aluminum, ensuring maximum durability and reliability. Two Laser host modules with lenses will be utilized to hold the Diodes, featuring top and front facing bored 12mm holes for precise alignment. Another partial module will be drilled out and used to hold the output lens at the bottom 12mm bored hole, requiring meticulous attention to detail to ensure perfect alignment. The bores must be on the same plane and axis to guarantee optimal performance. The Diode lenses will be focused to infinity into the combining cube, which is wavelength specific and measures 12.7mm square. This cube will then fit snugly into the well in the side of the housing. The housing has been expertly "heat sinked" to dissipate heat efficiently. Two 30mm X 10mm fans will be installed above each Laser module (although not depicted), providing ample airflow and maintaining a stable temperature. This design is specifically tailored for using two less expensive Laser Diodes, rather than a single more expensive diode, while also offering flexibility by allowing the use of one or both Lasers depending on the job material or type. This design caters to the inexpensive "Benbox" style DIY Laser kits, making it an ideal solution for enthusiasts and professionals alike. This is a work in progress, with continuous refinement and improvement aimed at achieving perfection. The new version of the design, Beam combiner5.stl, features fan mounts added in, requiring adjustments to be made to the heat sink fins on the horizontal Diode extension to accommodate the fans. For reference, the Beam Combiner cube can be purchased from eBay, while the Diode Hosts are available at dtrlpf.google.com. The object has been edited and resized, with increased cooling area and modified dimensions effective as of August 10th, 2016. This design was created using Sketchup 2016, a powerful tool for designing complex structures like Laser housings.
