Twizler
thingiverse
An Openscad construct is shown above... It could be a Christmas ornament or a cocktail stirrer. To make it, a long box or round ended rod is rotated in openscad with an amplitude equal to a Gaussian curve centered at zero, and capped with a ball at either end.... i.e. Everybody needs one of these ... uhh, to mix their cocktails, a twizler, or to hang as a Christmas ornament? It is mainly just a piece of art... but fun to mess with in openscad :) There is a long story that goes with this about leaving my wallet, keys, and phone in the towel drawer, but that's for another day... Enjoy!! All settings and supports were standard. The ornament shown was printed at 380% of the original stl file size. You could add a hole in one of the balls to hang the object on a tree :) Compile times for this thing were hideous (too many hulled surfaces!!) on my old 2 gig of RAM Toshiba Satellite L455 computer. More cores and more RAM should change that. The ornament shown took ~5 hours to compile the object in openscad at this level of resolution!! This way I can waste my time as well as yours... :) Voxelmaker was used for the slicer. Meshmixer Basic was used to examine structure.
