Twisty Christmas Tree Ornaments with Hanger Caps
thingiverse
Vase mode paired with translucent filament yields stunning ornaments for your tree. I discovered two ornaments I liked - a round one and an icicle. To create unique shapes, I stretched the icicle into a long and skinny design and added stems to both. Next, I designed a hanger that fit snugly over the stem like a cap. Both ornaments print well in vase mode with just a skirt. Using .2mm layer height, .6mm line width (150% of my usual setting for a .4mm nozzle), and 4 bottom layers produced a light and strong ornament. The hanger, however, requires precise printing settings. Printing on a raft helped, as did lowering the hot end temperature and increasing the first row line width to 150%. I achieved best results at .2mm layer height with 20% infill. For optimal fit, the hanger should sit snugly, but if yours turn out slightly loose, a small drop of glue can secure it.
