To combat the drawbacks of weight-activated locks, a damping spring actuator is utilized in the twist lock design. This overcomes the issue of automatic opening in rough waters by allowing a slow, controlled unlock within 3 to 5 seconds. The stiffness of the coil spring is lower than that of the torsional spring for this purpose. Additionally, the mechanism uses sliders made from curved pipes, ensuring positive motion between the twist lock and actuator. This innovative solution provides several benefits: no manual intervention, locks only need to be fitted on top corners, permanent attachment to containers, reduced maintenance, and most importantly, the damping action during unlocking.
